What apprenticeships can you get in construction?Depending on the route you want to take, there are a range of qualifications available. If you have an eye for the finer details then joinery and carpentry are a great way to get into construction. If more technical things interest you then engineering is also an option. Other possible apprenticeships in construction include brickwork, painting, decorating, plumbing, heating, and site management.

What apprenticeships can you get in property development?Property development is another area where young people can find apprenticeships. Property development involves a range of disciplines, such as design and architecture, legal considerations, planning, and finance. Apprenticeships are available to cover all these areas and more. Why get into construction or property developmentWhy should you get into construction or property development? Both careers offer an excellent opportunity for growth and they are also in high demand. With the population expanding and more people needing homes, construction and property development is vital to the industry. On top of that, you can get paid while learning skills that will last you a lifetime.

How do apprenticeships work? Now you’ve decided which apprenticeship course you’re going to take, you need to understand how they work.

The idea behind apprenticeships is that they offer onsite, real-life learning alongside a college course. For many hands-on roles practical skills in a live setting are invaluable.

Typically, you will have four days working with your employer where you carry out daily tasks connected to your qualification. For some roles, you may not be able to perform the task independently due to requiring the qualification.

For the fifth day, you will be in a college setting, or an independent tutor will visit your work placement and go through the coursework with you. There will be practical or theoretical learning or a combination of the two.

As an apprentice you will be on an apprentice wage, there is a legal minimum that employers should pay you. However, the employer is able to pay more and is up to the discretion of the company. For more details relating to apprenticeship pay visit the Gov website.
