The village of Horndean is probably best known as being the home of the famous Gales Brewery which existed in the village from 1850 until 2005. Merchiston Hall the former home of Sir Charles Napier and now a grade 2 listed building, serves as the village’s major community centre offering a range of activities and interests for all ages. Other venues include Napier Hall which was partially rebuilt in 2004 and Jubilee Hall which opened in 2002.

The village of Horndean is twinned with the town of Aubergenville in France and various activities and exchange visits are organised by the Horndean Parish Twinning Association.
